Shetland lace stole Sue Petrie completed recently.

Sue Petrie stole

Sue washed and combed the locks of grey Shetland fleece and then carded the fleece with small quantities of Mulberry silk. She repeated this with a smaller quantity of white Shetland fleece. She then spun the rolags as singles semi worsted to keep the definition for lace knitting. The stole was knitted back and forth In single ply yarn on circular needles in a lace pattern with over 300 stitches on. Once washed and blocked she was amazed and pleased at the size as when it was still on the needles it looked like a chewed up rag. It reveals the range of tones of grey in a single Shetland fleece.

Sue Petrie's lovely stole.

MARY BARKER TROPHY 3

My contribution is a shoulder bag woven with my cut-up 1970s kitchen curtains (fabric shown tucked in to the handle) and the lanyard from the “Simply Special” Summer School where I learned some techniques of weaving with rags. It was woven on a table loom with the handles inkle woven. It is lined with an off cut of other fabric and has 2 internal pockets held closed with magnets and also a clip for a key ring.

Beautiful work by Trudy shown to members 2020

Gina made this quilt using a 'jelly roll' and some harbour pictures. She found the style on the internet. It is part hand quilted and part machine quilted. She called it 'Seahaven'. I am sure everyone will agree that it is a lovely use of colour and quilting techniques.
